Surfboard volume = How much space the surfboard occupies in liters

VOLUME = BUOYANCY = SIZE

Having the right size surfboard is an essential factor to maximize your time and effort in the surf.

Although, what many beginner surfers don’t know is that it’s not ultimately the VOLUME, but also the TYPE of the board that plays a huge role.

Finding the suitable surfboard volume according to your skill level and types of waves are the most important factor when choosing a surfboard!

How to choose the right size surfboard?

  • Type of waves
Are the waves small and slow, or fast and hollow, point, or beach break? Do you need a fish/hybrid for small and slow or a shortboard for fast and hollow waves?
  • Skill level.
Are you a beginner, intermediate, or an advanced surfer? Check the volume recommendation chart above to find the most suitable range for you
  • Riding style.
Do you want a sporty shortboard for sharp turns or a cruisy longboard?

How to choose a surfboard?

  1. TYPE of surfboard – A shortboard, fish, hybrid, or a longboard?
  2. VOLUME – Get a board with the right amount of volume
  3. SIZE – Lastly, once the type and volume are fine, choose a suitable size

Surfboard Volume Size Calculator – How It Works?

How to manually find the Surfboard Volume by knowing the stock dimensions only?

STEP 1 – Convert the surfboard size from feet and inches to centimeters ( x’y” to cm)

STEP 2 – Multiply: Length x Width x Height ( L x W x H )

STEP 3 – Get 54% to 58% out of the sum by multiplying the result with 0.54 or 0.58 (515151 x 0,54)

Symbolistics:

1 feet = 1 = 30,5 centimers = 30,5 cm
1 inch = 1 = 2,5 centimeters = 2,5 cm
feet 1 inch = 11 = 33 centimeters = 33 cm

To know how much volume does the surfboard occupy, you need to do some simple calculations. We have converted the most used surfboard dimensions down below to make things easier.

STEP 1:
Convert Surfboard Dimension from imperial to metric

So, how to calculate the surfboard volume to liters by just knowing the stock dimensions?

The length, width, and height on surfboards are measured in feet and inches (Imperial)
The surfboard volume is calculated in liters (Litres Is Metrical)

From Imperial 60 x 20 x 2 1/2
To metric 182,8cm x 50,8cm x 6,3cm

First, to calculate the volume, you need to convert the surfboard size from feet and inches to centimeters.

STEP 2:
Multiply the sizes

Once you have multiplied the dimensions, you get a rough 5-digit answer. Round it down to xx,x L

182,8 x 50,8 x 6,3 = 58503,3

STEP 3:
Get 5458% out of the sum ( x 0.54 / x 0.56 / x 0.58)

Surfboard typically occupies approximately 54-58 percent out of the perfect cube.

54% – narrow surfboard
56% – average size surfboard
58% – round shaped surfboard

58503,x 0,54 = 31591  31,5Litres
