VOLUME = HOW MUCH SPACE DOES THE SURFBOARD OCCUPY (IN LITERS)

VOLUME = BUOYANCY = SIZE

Having the right size surfboard is an essential factor to maximize your time and effort in the surf.

Although, what many beginner surfers don’t know is – that it’s not ultimately the VOLUME of the surfboard, but also the TYPE of the board that play’s a huge role.

Finding the suitable surfboard volume according to your skill level and types of waves is the most imporant factor when choosing a surfboard!

How to choose the right size surfboard?

  • Know the type of waves on your home break. Are the waves small and slow, or fast and hollow, point or beach break?
    – Do you need a fish/hybrid for small and slow, or a shortboard for fast and hollow waves?
  • Know your skill level. Are you a beginner, intermediate, or an advanced surfer?
    – Check the volume recommendation chart below to find that’s suitable for you
  • Know your riding style. Do you want a sporty shortboard or a cruisy longboard?

How to choose a surfboard?

  1. TYPE of the board – shortboard/fish/hybrid or a longboard?
  2. VOLUME – Get the volume according to your weight
  3. SIZE – Lastly, once the type and volume are fine, choose a suitable size

Surfboard Volume Size Calculator – How It Works?

How to manually find the Surfboard Volume by knowing the stock dimensions only?

Symbolistics:

1 feet = 1 = 30,5 centimers = 30,5 cm
1 inch = 1 = 2,5 centimeters = 2,5 cm
feet 1 inch = 11 = 33 centimeters = 33 cm

Surfboard volume calculation

To know how much volume does the surfboard occupy, you need to do some simple calculations. We’ve created the most used surfboard size charts down below to make things easy for you.

  • STEP 1 – Convert the surfboard size from feet and inches to centimeters ( x’y” to cm)
  • STEP 2 – Multiply: Length x Width x Height ( L x W x H )
  • STEP 3 – Get 54% to 58% out of the sum by multiplying the result with 0.54 or 0.58 (515151 x 0,54)

STEP 1: Imperial to Metric

So – How to calculate the surfboard volume to liters by just knowing the stock dimensions?

FROM imperial 60 x 20 x 2 1/2
TO metric 182,8cm x 50,8cm x 6,3cm

First, to calculate the volume, you need to convert the surfboard size from feet and inches to centimeters.

The surfboard volume is calculated in liters (Litres Is Metrical).

The length, width, and height an on surfboards are measured in feet and inches (Imperial).

  • Find out the feet/inches to centimeters volume chart from down below (Imperial to Metrical)

STEP 2: Multiply the sizes

Once you have multiplied the dimensions, you get a rough 5-digit answer. Round it down to xx,x L

182,8 x 50,8 x 6,3 = 58503,

STEP 3: Calculate 5458% out of the sum

The previous process gives you the result of the perfect cube, but a surfboard typically occupies approximately 54-58 percent out of the perfect cube.

54% – narrow surfboard
56% – average size surfboard
58% – round shaped surfboard

So, in order to know the final answer, multiply the answer with 0,54 or 0,56 or 0,58 to know the rough estimation on litres.

58503,x 0,54 = 31591  31,5Litres
